The Pledge of Allegiance in the Senate.
Brooks Brothers Suit – $850.
Political career to become Senate Democratic leader – $15 million.
Using the wrong hand while repeating the Pledge of Allegiance – PRICELESS.

Well at least Sen. Tom Daschle tried. (Newsflash to Sen. Daschle, it’s your other right hand.”)

Obama holds his hands together while others place their hands over their hearts during the National Anthem, September 16, 2007. The photo was taken at an annual steak fry in Iowa where Obama was photographed along with Sen. Hillary Clinton and Governor Bill Richardson at the home of Sen. Tom Harkin. In the photograph, which later was viewable on Time.com, Clinton and Richardson are seen standing with their hands over their hearts while Obama has his hands clasped down. All three are standing in front of a huge American flag. An astute reporter inquired whether Obama ever placed his hand over his heart while listening to the national anthem, Obama’s National Press Secretary Bill Burton replied, ”Sometimes he does. Sometimes he doesn’t.” Regarding displays of patriotism, Obama noted he was taught by his grandfather that, ”During the Pledge of Allegiance you put your hand over your heart. During the national anthem you sing.”
Hmmm. ALL the other VIP guests photographed had their hands over their hearts, including Mrs. Ruth Harkin, Sen. Tom Harkin, Sen. Chris Dodd, former Sen. John Edwards, and Sen. Joe Biden.
That’s probably because the Flag Code says:
During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. — United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171
Time for someone to learn the U.S. Flag Code.
