Megalomania.
AKA Narcissistic Personality Disorder, characterized by grandiosity, need for admiration, and lack of empathy. Narcissism, formerly known as megalomania, occurs in a spectrum of severity, but the pathologically narcissistic are extremely self-absorbed, insensitive to others’ needs and indifferent to the effect of their own egocentric behavior, per Narcissistic Personality Suite 101 Diagnosis.
According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR), a patient must exhibit five or more of the following traits in order to be diagnosed with NPD, per Narcissistic Personality Suite 101 Personality Disorder :
- grandiose sense of self-importance
- preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
- belief that he or she is “special” and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)
- need for excessive admiration
- sense of entitlement
- takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends
- lack of empathy
- envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her
- arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes
Now that this mental disorder has been covered, check out the Democratic National Committee Convention plan for Barack Obama’s presidential nominee acceptance speech, according to Reuters and ABC News.
- An elaborate columned stage resembling a miniature Greek temple.
- The stage will be similar to structures used for rock concerts, at the Denver Broncos’ National Football League team stadium.
- He will stride out to a raised platform to a podium that can be raised from beneath the floor.
- Politicians previously have given their speech from the convention site itself, but the Obama campaign fancied instead John F. Kennedy’s acceptance speech in 1960 to 80,000 people in the Los Angeles Coliseum.
- Confetti will rain down on him and fireworks will be fired off from locations around the stadium wall.
And then, the grand coronation will conclude with the anointed king standing high and mighty for all to see.
