That interview of Governor Sarah Palin By Charlie Gibson from ABC News on September 11, 2008, sure was different from the others of Campaign ‘08. Seems like it was more like an interrogation, for one. But The Governor stood well on her own.

-GIBSON: You said recently, in your old church, “Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God.” Are we fighting a holy war?
-PALIN: You know, I don’t know if that was my exact quote.
-GIBSON: Exact words.
NO, Gibson, those are not the “exact” words.
Actual quote: “Let us pray our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God.”
“Let us pray” makes all the difference in the world, right Charlie? Typical media trickery.

I watched the interview and she has her own style of answering questions. Charlie Gibson tried to pin her down on the question of whether the US has every right to invade or bomb Pakistan.. She danced around and did not answer directly but the gist of her answer was that she agrees with the Bush doctrine of preemptive strike.. We have every right to strike at anyone before they even strike us…Tough talk and delivered like a politician.
While I do not agree with this policy, she is emphatic and did not miss a beat in giving answers to Charlie Gibson. Typical politician talk.
What is impressive is that she was not rattled not like Obama when he appeared at the Saddle Back Mountain interview. She did not stutter just like Obama does.. whose statement is calculating and measured.
Again, it did not mean that I agree with her.. Just saying that she is a politician through and through and also a smart politician.

Charlie was making himself into an Ass. He kept rolling his eyes at her. Trying to call her out. Goat her into an argument. She didn’t budge. Fall for it. She gave direct and to the point answers. Never stumbled. Looked for words. Didn’t pander with hot air. She didn’t flip and flop on the issues.
She is right once a country is member of NATO and our ally, we are called upon to help protect that country with our Military. Doesn’t matter if you’re Republican or Democrat or Independent, that is the way it works. It was set up that way by both Democrats and Republicans. From various leaders around the world. From 26 countries. “To safeguard the freedom and SECURITY of it’s memebers by political and military means.” Charlie knows that, he couldn’t convince me in a million years he doesn’t. He tried to use it as a trap.
I thought she did FANTASTIC! Did O’Reilly treat Obama that way? I can’t imagine O’Reilly being that immature to sit there and roll his eyes at someone. Point a finger at them, yes. Get in their face, yes. Argue with them, yes. But I’ve never seen him treat someone like their answers were insignificant to him, in one ear and out the other.
He might as well have leaned forward and patted her on the head, said, “Here’s a treat, now be a good little girl and go get your hair done. Raise your children. You’re dismissed.” His crap didn’t work, it made him look exactly as you said, and I said. She definately came out on top of that one.

Yes, her answers were cut off, but that’s normal. What I noticed, however, was that the editing of the interview was very choppy, which made the segment look unprofessional. It’s obvious that they had to rush to get the thing on the air. There was one visible jump cut, which is a major no-no, and some b-roll of troops was awkwardly inserted for a too short period when she was talking about her son going to Iraq. I’m sure that some hands will be smacked at ABC over this.

Re the ABC interview: Gibson’s body language oozed condescension and the dislike in his voice was palpable. The interrogation he attempted was designed to do nothing more than trip Gov. Palin as hard and as fast as he could. “Is Iran an existential threat to Israel?” Existential??? “What is the Bush doctrine?” (I the great Charles Gibson know but you, you silly female hockey mom, surely don’t.) I thought she came through it with head held high and colors flying. I also think he brought another few hundred thousand Hillary voters into the Republican fold. I hope we see a side by side video of Gibson interviewing Obama and Palin. The differences should be a revelation.
At ABC News,
***This is by FAR ridiculous, i have lost all respect for 90% of our media…..It literally made me sick to watch her being drilled like that….How is it that noone has yet to stand up to Obama and drill him on these same very issues (ARE YOU OBAMA READY TO POSSIBLY BE THE PRESIDENT OF THIS COUNTRY AT SUCH A CRITICAL TIME?) as charlie gibson put it in terms towards govenor Palin….being the fact that HE IS THE ONE AT THE TOP OF THE TICKET….have people lost their minds???…He has ZERO executive experience and ZERO foreign policy experience…..yet, he and his party are trying to discredit the #2 spot on our ticket……are they mad because our ticket is actually in a more proper order??? Are they mad that she IS the humble person they so desperately try to portray themselves as…..Yes, i think they are outraged..and in turn, they are out to destroy her. Keep it up though, because every attempt you make to discredit her, is only shedding light on Obama’s discredibility.***Four Bills sponsored by Obama. FOUR They were not contraversial. No work. They all passed unanimously. As you can see they were NOTHING special. No big reform record here.Passed SenateJun 26, 2007 S.Con.Res. 25: A concurrent resolution condemning the recent violent actions of the Government of Zimbabwe against peaceful opposition party activists and members of civil society. Passed SenateJun 24, 2008 S.Res. 600: A resolution commemorating the 44th anniversary of the deaths of civil rights workers Andrew Goodman, James Chaney, and Michael Schwerner in Philadelphia, Mississippi, while working in the name of American democracy to register voters and secure civil rights during the summer of 1964, which has become known as “Freedom Summer”. Passed SenateJul 13, 2007 S.Res. 268: A resolution designating July 12, 2007, as “National Summer Learning Day”. Passed SenateMar 28, 2007 S.Res. 133: A resolution celebrating the life of Bishop Gilbert Earl Patterson.*** More crappy sensationalism by the trolls at ABC writing headlines to garner attention and ratings. My initial take on what I read so far is that Sarah Palin sounds an awful lot like Ronald Reagan by virtue of her tone and principled conviction. The lefty hysterical press and the loyal opposition can try to destroy her with labels and out-of-context nonsense representations, but they do a disservice to this country in doing so. Bottom line is that Sarah Palin is a unique person who can be of great benefit to our nation. Elevate the discussion boys and girls.***I saw the quote “Gov. Sarah Palin took a hard-line approach on national security and said that war with Russia may be necessary if that nation invades another country.” and proceeded to read the excerpts of the interview. The ABC quote is a significant misrepresentation of the conversation I just read. Shame on ABC
