Governor Sarah Palin was out campaigning in full force in Carson, CA on Saturday, October 4, 2008. Never mind that California does not seem likely to go red Republican this election. Palin was warmly welcomed and cheered on by about 10,000, during her speech, according to the Press-Telegram of Long Beach and the Daily Breeze of Los Angeles and the Associated Press.
It was Palin’s speech that put a new twist in the campaign though.
…donors on a greeting line had encouraged her and McCain to get tougher on Obama. She said an aide then advised her, “Sarah, the gloves are off, the heels are on, go get to them.”
Palin went on to accuse Obama of his association with William Ayers, a former ’60’s radical admitted and guilty of
“Our opponent is someone who sees America as imperfect enough to pal around with terrorists who targeted their own country,”
who was the founder of the Weather Underground, a radical leftist group from the Viet Nam era, whose mission was to overthrow the U.S government through violent attacks, and was responsible for bombings at the U.S. Capitol and the Pentagon. In the New York Times, on September 11, 2001, No Regrets for a Love Of Explosives; In a Memoir of Sorts, a War Protester Talks of Life With the Weathermen,
”I don’t regret setting bombs,” Bill Ayers said. ”I feel we didn’t do enough.”
Mr. Ayers, who in 1970 was said to have summed up the Weatherman philosophy as: ”Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents, that’s where it’s really at,” is today distinguished professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
So, would Mr. Ayers do it all again, he is asked? ”I don’t want to discount the possibility,” he said.
The New York Times on October 3, 2008 did not seem to think there was much a connection between Obama and Ayers. Thus, one might think Palin might be far reaching in her claims. Think again.
In Obama and Ayers Pushed Radicalism On Schools in the Wall Street Journal, Ayers sought Obama recently out of law school to chair the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, an organization founded by Ayers to help improve Chicago’s public schools, with taxpayer money. After 5 years of working with Ayers and the common, shared goals as noted, Obama’s ONLY executive experience showed NO DEMONSTRABLE IMPROVEMENT.
The CAC’s agenda flowed from Mr. Ayers’s educational philosophy, which called for infusing students and their parents with a radical political commitment, and which downplayed achievement tests in favor of activism.
Mr. Ayers wrote that teachers should be community organizers dedicated to provoking resistance to American racism and oppression. His preferred alternative? “I’m a radical, Leftist, small ‘c’ communist,” Mr. Ayers said in an interview in Ron Chepesiuk’s, “Sixties Radicals,” at about the same time Mr. Ayers was forming CAC.
And as per Bernadine Dohrn, Ayers’s wife who is an attorney now, she now claims she said this as as joke during the Charles Manson timeframe.
”Dig it! Manson killed those pigs, then they ate dinner in the same room with them, then they shoved a fork into a victim’s stomach.”
Uppity Woman has done an outstanding job of detailing Ayers’s terrorist activities. Larry Johnson has brought up the Ayers support for Obama’s state senate campaign. These are both well worth the read, forcibly demonstrating Obama’s poor judgment in associating himself with Ayers and Dorhn, over many years, not just in neighborhood passing.
And as a tiny reminder, remember how Obama described his relationship with Ayers, when asked by Geroge Stephanopoulos during the Clinton-Obama debate.
This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood, who’s a professor of English in Chicago who I know and who I have not received some official endorsement from. He’s not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis.”
Palin went on to say,
“This is not a man who sees America like you and I see America,” Palin said. “We see America as a force of good in this world. We see an America of exceptionalism.”
