A few images from today’s parades.
Half the fun is catching the throws!
If you can’t make it down to the Crescent City for this unique experience, then be sure to regularly visit over the next few days at The Times Picayune Photo Gallery, to catch the flavor of the green, gold, and purple season.
The neighborhood experience these images depict is distinct from that of the tourist experience in the French Quarter downtown.
In a recent interview with Sean Hannity, Representative Louie Gomert (R-Texas) discussed the “Spendulus Bill” promulgated by President Barack Obama and the Democrats.

In the Caribbean, Vervet Monkeys have developed a taste for alcohol and can regularly be spotted stealing cocktails from humans on the beach. Brilliant wildlife video from BBC animal show ‘Weird Nature’.
Males vary in size from 45 to 85 cm (18-34 in), and weigh between 3.5 to 7.5 kg (7.5-16.5 lb), while females, range from 40 to 60 cm (16-24 in) in size and between 2.5 to 5.5 kg (5.5-12 lb) in weight. Both have tail lengths that can vary from 50 to 115 cm.
The pigmentation of the male Vervet Monkey’s scrotum is a vivid blue that pales when the animal falls in social rank. The hydration of the scrotal skin controls its color.
The Vervet Monkey is mainly frugivorous, but it also supplements its diet with a variety of other foods, including leaves, seeds, insects and small rodents.
It commonly lives in groups or “troops” of 20 or more, however the size of the group is often smaller than 20. Its gestation period is 7 months with a single offspring produced and is known to have a life span of up to 20 years.
One interesting phenomenon about the Vervet Monkey is that it seems to possess what has been called the “rudiments of language”. Vervet Monkey alarm calls vary greatly depending on the different types of threats to the community. There are distinct calls to warn of invading leopards, snakes, and eagles. In doing so they attract attention to themselves, increasing their personal chance of being attacked, this has been noted as altruistic behaviour.

The rumblings are getting louder now.
Rick Santelli and the “Rant of the Year”
February 19, 2009
The government is promoting bad behavior because we certainly don’t want to put stimulus forth and give people a whopping $8 or $10 in their check and think they ought to save it. And in terms of modifications, I tell you what, I have an idea. You know the new administration is big on computers and technology. How about this President and new administration: Why don’t you put up a web site to have people vote on the internet as a referendum, to see if we really want to subsidize the losers’ mortgages, or would we like to at least buy cars and buy houses in foreclosure and give them to people that might have a chance actually to prosper down the road and reward people that can carry the water instead of drink the water.
