Down, Down, Down He Went

April 3, 2009 · 4 Comments

Good thing the motions were caught on camera.  President Barack Obama bowing to and kissing the ring on the finger of King Abdullah.

A show of reverence or subservience?  It should be neither per protocol.

Obama prostrates himself before Saudi King to kiss his ring at Hillbuzz and Video: Obama’s deep bow to the Saudi king at Michelle Malkin.

Unprez submits to Saudi King Abdullah, disrespects and insults America at RBO.  Incredible collection of analyses by some very sharp folks, very well worth the read.  It will likely quell any critic’s support for Obama’s gesture.  Let’s take a look at the LA Times.

“Kissing hands is alien to our values and morals, and is not accepted by free and noble souls,” Abdullah told a delegation from Baha, in southwest Saudi Arabia, which came to the royal palace to offer congratulations on his accession. “It also leads to bowing, which is a violation of God’s law. The faithful bow to no one but God.”

A very troubling “position” for the leader of the free world indeed.

No Quarter offered a pragmatic suggestion at  [Live Chat Update!] What the Hell? What’s Up With This Passive, Servile, Hat-In-Hand Bowing and Scraping!

If you’re going to bow that far downward, President Obama, why not scrape the floor as well?

Update

Video: No, Obama wasn’t cleaning the floor when greeting Abdullah.  Clarficiation in easy 22 seconds for anyone that believes Obama was picking up something off the ground.  Hot Air blows a hole through that spin.  And connects with the Arab News who reveal their disappointment in Obama.

But did it buy Obama any respect from Abdullah and the Saudis? Apparently not. Arab News, the recognized media mouthpiece for the Saudi royal family, dismisses Obama in an editorial today as false change.

Flopping Aces called it accordingly.

Submission accomplished.

Did Obama bow to Saudi King Abdullah, or was he cleaning the floor?

I feel compelled to mention the ring kissing disgrace with the Saudi king. This episode is an action akin to a ‘Freudian slip’. A window into the soul. Why would any American politician feel compelled to grovel before the hereditary head of a hypocritical and corrupt family of murderers and despots? Why kiss a ring? Ring and hand kissing is an ancient practice of deference extended to someone perceived to be of a higher social status or class. It is still practiced within the Catholic Church, as an example, where when greeting a high church prelate a devotee will kiss the prelate’s ring and combine that act with a genuflection demonstrating even stronger filial obsequiousness. In Mediterranean cultures, it is a symbol of obedience to the highest rank of a family, such a respect offered to a Sicilian crime Don. Why was Obama compelled to act this way? This to a man who symbolizes the economic strangulation of America’s testicles with Saudi oil, who personifies the culture that whacked this nation during 9/11? A Freudian slip yes, matching the ‘Muslim’ episode with Stephanopoulos. There is nothing that can defend this. The 12th house also indicates deeply kept secrets. This man is rife with them. Keep on your guard. We are a nation in danger
