Ramadan Gets Public Presidential Address Unlike National Prayer Day

Recall the National Prayer Day Sans President, when the United States President declined to have public recognition of the day with religious leaders, unlike presidents in the past who openly celebrated.  Barack Obama instead issued a public proclamation for the Thursday May 7, 2009 date.

Fast forward to August 21, 2009.  The day before Ramadan begins.

WTH?… Obama Ignores National Day of Prayer But Sends Out 5 Minute Ramadan Blessing(?).  A response befit with amazement, which certainly has been expressed by many Americans.  For clarity, Obama Gives Best Wishes To Muslims At Ramadan On White House Blog

Obama Continues Outreach to Muslim Community as Ramadan Begins.  Perplexing.  Public outreach to the Muslim community, yet only a written decree for the Christian community?

A fascinating way for a purported Christian to celebrate.  The One who has time for vocal well wishes on Ramadan, but who is unable to find a church for himself and his family in his new home of 8 months now in another city.  The retired Reverend Jeremiah Wright of Chicago, in his million dollar retirement home built by his church,  is no longer available.  Unless perhaps he is resurrected anew from under the bus and spirited to Washington, D.C.

Marine Veteran Asks Congressman Baird If He Ever Intends To Keep His Oath

Town hall meetings with congressman are taking place across the country.  People opposed to the health care reform continue to attend to air their views.  Vancouver, Washington, August 18, 2009.

One Marine Corp veteran who kept his oath while serving his country, asked Congressman Brian Baird (D-WA) if he ever inteded to keep his.  His comments were met with rousing audience support.  He posted his video for all to see.

I, David William Hedrick, a member of the silent majority, decided that I was not going to be silent anymore. So, I let U.S. Congressman Brian Baird have it. I was one questioner out of 38, that was called at random from an audience that started at 3,000 earlier in the evening. Not expecting to be called on, I quickly scratched what I wanted to say on a borrowed piece of paper and with a pen that I borrowed from someone else in the audience minutes before I spoke. So much for the planned talking points of the right wing conspiracy.

Funny insurance commercial

July 12, 2006

This commercial brought a lot of positive attention to Ameriquest, after it aired in 2005 for the XXXIX (39th) Super Bowl, per Free Library

SCOTUS Justice Benjamin Nathan Cardozo And Hispanic Roots

The recent ascenscion of Judge Sonia Sotomayor of the U.S. Court of Appeals of the Second Circuit, to the Supreme Court makes her the third woman to take a position in the nation’s highest court of law.  But the issue of being the first Hispanic to the high court, has drawn criticism from those who believe Supree Court Justice Benjamin Nathan Cardozo should rightly hold that distinction.

NYT asks Was a Hispanic Justice on the Court in the ’30s?  Modern-day definitions of Hispanic ensue with various opinions from biographers.  Contemporary definitions are at the crux of the argument of Cardozo’s background.  Benjamin Cardozo’s lineage was Portuguese Sephardic Jew.

B’nai Abraham has a post that explores it in a historical context, and thus lends credibility to Cardozo’s rightful assignment.
