Frozen Hair In Freezing Temperatures

A great lesson for those who have never quite felt the full effects of a cold climate.  Weather Guys | Frozen Wet Hair.  MyFox D.C.

“Is it true that your hair could freeze if you leave home without drying it after your shower, and in temperatures below freezing? I always ask my kids to blow dry their hair ‘just in case’ for them not to catch a cold.”

Check out Frosty and friends who provide the “scientific” answer.

It very cold (-12) in Chena Hot Springs outside of Fairbanks. We were told that wet hair would freeze at the Hot Springs so we wanted to test the theory.

  1. When my husband and I used to go dog sledding, his mustache and beard would freeze together and his beard would be dripping with icicles because of his warm breath hitting the cold air.

Nunly, did he ever poke you with those icicles? Ha ha. The dogs sometimes would come back inside the house after a little trip into the yard to do their duty, come back in with wet hair thant froze from walking around in the snow, shake it off just aupon entering the house of course, and flying sharp icicle projectiles would go flying out at rocket speed. Ouch.

  3. No….he never poked me, but there was the distinct advantage that I could throw a few snide remarks his way and he couldn’t answer back until his face thawed. I always try to find the silver lining…
