E Pluribus Unum Resonates After McClintock Speech

“E Pluribus Unum” – A Response to President Calderon.  Congressman Tom McClintock (R-CA).

A very thorny rebuttal to Mexican President Felipe Calderon, the first foreign national leader given the opportunity to address a joint session of Congress this year.   And in return, Calderon blasts Arizona immigration law, seeks assault weapons ban.  CNN.  Video here.

Congressman Tom McClintock Tells Mexico To Butt Out

May 20, 2010

Something to ponder.

A century ago President Teddy Roosevelt put it this way.  He said:

“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language … and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

That is how we have built one great nation from the people of all the nations of the world.

Russian Bridge Does The Wave

A huge gust of wind sent a new bridge in Volgograd, Russia, on a huge wave.  While cars were driving on it.  This in turn sent the locals into a tizzy, wondering why their cars went a-bouncing, and if an earthquake was responsible.  No such luck, according to seismologists.

This is enough to make anyone seasick.

Scary! Massive waves on huge road bridge send Volgograd drivers asphalt surfing

Bathroom Privileges At Stake

A love note at work designed to get a message across to the offending co-worker.

“This is the 3rd time I’ve come to work and there’s a present for me in the toilet.  FLUSH the toilet!!!  If I see it again I’m locking the bathroom and you can go to Moe’s.”

Dragnet Offers Lesson On Democracy To Obama

Recall Jack Webb as Sergeant/Lieutenant Joe Friday, and Harry Morgan as Officer Bill Gannon, in the television series, “Dragnet.”

Tough talking, conservative cops, with a knack for imparting professionalism and real life lessons to criminals along the way.

Now hear what they have to say to one certain self-styled deliverer of government.

Houston Baby Elephant Frolicks In Pool

IT’S A BOY! -Shanti and Baby Baylor Doing Fine at the Houston Zoo.  Houston Zoo.

After a pregnancy lasting almost 23 months, Shanti, a 19-year-old Asian elephant, delivered a healthy 348-pound male calf Tuesday morning at the Houston Zoo’s McNair Asian Elephant Habitat. The calf has been named Baylor by the Zoo’s elephant care team in recognition of the unprecedented and ongoing advances made by Baylor College of Medicine’s research team to significantly reduce the threat of a potentially lethal elephant herpes virus.

Here is Baby Baylor.

Illegal Immigration Officially Not Welcome By Costa Mesa City Council

Council declares Costa Mesa a ‘Rule of Law City’.  OC Register.

Another place in this country, doing what they believe is best for themselves.

Councilwoman Wendy Leece said she supported the resolution, stating that the city’s relationship with Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the city jail has helped reduce crime.

“This is just validating and reinstating the federal immigration law that we already follow,” she said.

Ironic that federal enforcement of federal laws already in place is a responsibility abdicated, that cities and states now appear ready to spearhead directly.

Arizona Asks Los Angeles To Reconsider Boycott As Electrical Power Supply At Stake

AZ utility board member responds to LA boycott over SB1070.  Hot Air.

A pretty clear and concise request by the Arizona Corporation Commission to the City Council of Los Angeles, to refrain from interfering with Arizona’s business, over new 1070 illegal immigration bill with its amendment

If an economic boycott is truly what you desire, I will be happy to encourage Arizona utilities to renegotiate your power agreements so Los Angeles no longer receives any power from Arizona-based generation. I am confident that Arizona’s utilities would be happy to take those electrons off your hands. If, however, you find that the City Council lacks the strength of its convictions to turn off the lights in Los Angeles and boycott Arizona power, please reconsider the wisdom of attempting to harm Arizona’s economy.

People of goodwill can disagree over the merits of SB 1070. A state-wide economic boycott of Arizona is not a message sent in goodwill.

Boycotting can be a two way street.  But is that any way to do business?

Wise city leaders  in Los Angeles would do well to take Arizona’s advice, and stop attempting to meddle in the state’s affairs.  Arizona knows best what is best for Arizona.
