Bringing Guns To The Political Fight Sows Seeds Of Destruction

Obama: ‘If They Bring a Knife to the Fight, We Bring a Gun’.  WSJ.  2008.

Words can become weapons in the wrong hands.  One with good judgment would castigate incendiary expressions aside.   What happens when an adult who is supposed to have acquired a modicum of good judgement  and maturity by the time he is in his late 40′s, who is running for the highest elected office in the land, wields words with thuggish connotations with potential for negative consequences?  Would anyone act upon them?

what Barack Obama said he would do to counter Republican attacks “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,”

Political rhetoric is ripe for opportunity for such language.  Poisonous seeds seem to have become so commonplace in the last few years, no doubt aided and abetted by those wishing to cast their brand of politics as supreme.  Responsible communication would serve to keep a civil discourse and keep words from potentially becoming heated emotions or actions out of control.  Alas, a very hard thing to do for some, but ultimately necessary to return to a more responsible and dignified society.

Obama: ‘We Bring a Gun’.  NYT.  2008.

The Times’s Julie Bosman has more on Mr. Obama’s efforts to show he can do more than give a good speech.

Ironic.  We can see how far “a good speech” has taken some.

Sterilizing Huckleberry Finn Defeats Original Twain Premise

Effort to sanitize Twain is pure insanity.  Tony Norman of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, on Mark Twain’s famous book.

Removing “nigger” from the pages of one of our most prophetic and subversive novels creates a space for even more glibness and self-deception by preserving the conceit that we’re a society that doesn’t “see” color.

Twain once described “Huckleberry Finn” as “a book of mine where a sound heart and a deformed conscience come into collision and conscience suffers defeat.”

Taking words out that convey the entirety of meaning to the time period, completely dismantle the foundation of the story.  Just Let Huck Finn tell it as it was.  FT.

Obama Doctor Cousin Pushes Against Obamacare

Milton Wolf, M.D.  Radiologist in Kansas.  Also known as President Barack Obama’s cousin.  And a stalwart opponent of Obamacare.

As a doctor, Wolf has a front row view on how government already creates obstacles and interferes with people’s healthcare already.  Not content to sit idly by the sidelines, he does not want healthcare to deteriorate further at the hands of bureaucrats whose job is not taking care of people medically day-to-day anyway.  WOLF: Buck up and stop Obamacare

A message to those elected to pay attention to the will of the people who helped turn the House red , with the underlying fight against Obamacare as a central premise.

…the underlying fundamental flaw that the government takeover of the health care system is acceptable.

Gestalt.

The states should make every possible effort to delay, nullify and push back Obamacare.

Everyone is watching and waiting.

He grasped me firmly but gently just above my elbow and guided me into a room, his room. Then he quietly shut the door and we were alone.

He approached me soundlessly, from behind, and spoke in a low, reassuring voice close to my ear. “Just relax.”

Without warning, he reached down and I felt his strong, calloused hands start at my ankles, gently probing, and moving upward along my calves slowly but steadily. My breath caught in my throat. I knew I should be afraid, but somehow I didn’t care. His touch was so experienced, so sure.

When his hands moved up onto my thighs, I gave a slight shudder, and partly closed my eyes. My pulse was pounding. I felt his knowing fingers caress my abdomen, my ribcage.. And then, as he cupped my firm, full breasts in his hands, I inhaled sharply. Probing, searching, knowing what he wanted, he brought his hands to my shoulders, slid them down my tingling spine and into my panties.

Although I knew nothing about this man, I felt oddly trusting and expectant. This is a man, I thought. A man used to taking charge. A man not used to taking “No” for an answer. A man who would tell me what he wanted. A man who would look into my soul and say … “Okay ma’am,” you can board your flight now.”

Teaching Suits Ousted Pennsylvania Senator

As the old adage goes, those who can, do.  Those who can’t, teach.

Sen. Arlen Specter joins Pennsylvania Law School faculty

The Ivy league University of Pennsylvania will welcome the former Republican-turned-Democrat ex-senator from Pennsylvania.   The one who helped the Senate pass unpopular Democratic policies.

Specter’s nearly 30-year Senate career ended in May 2010 when he was ousted by a Democratic congressman after deciding to bolt the Republican Party just a year earlier because he was threatened with defeat in a GOP primary. He may live to regret his party switch, or the anti-incumbent political tides of 2010 may simply have been against him, no matter what party label he bore.

His forte:  Congress and the Supreme Court.
