The Catholic Church’s response to abortion across America.
U.S. Bishops Against Expanded Abortion Rights. November 14, 2008.
Archbishop Philip Hannan may be retired, but he remains vigorously active in the Catholic church. He pushed the US Conference of Bishops to take a strong stand against the possibility that a new Presidential administration and new Congress may mean writing Roe V. Wade into the law of the land
“The danger the Bishops see at this moment is a bad court decision will be enshrined in bad legislation.” He hopes the letter will encourage the President-Elect to reconsider his statement that signing the Freedom of Choice Act would be ‘the first thing he’d do as president’ … repealing things like parental consent and restrictions on partial birth abortion.
“Every piece of legislation that is pro-life, he will automatically wipe out.”
Congress voted down the Freedom of Choice Act, or FOCA, last session.
“Here they are telling us that we don’t know anything about how to help families, how to help poor. They are telling us they are going to run the whole show. I am saying that this is a real great… insult even… to the people.”
